House Surgery wins award
Staff at Patford House Surgery in Patford Street,
Calne, are celebrating after receiving a national
award from Prince Charles for their innovative work
in tackling childhood obesity.
The Surgery was chosen
for the Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health GP
Practice Award, based on a scheme set up in
partnership with Springfields School, which teaches
parents and children about the importance of a
healthy lifestyle. Both the surgery and the school
are long-standing members of our
Chamber-of-Commerce.
The Surgery’s business
partner Martin Hender said “We were delighted to
receive this, especially as there are only eight
National awards and we were one of the lucky
recipients. It is also an excellent example of what
can be achieved when Chamber members get their heads
together for the benefit of the local community”.
In January, more than
200 Year 4 primary school children were invited to
Springfields School to take part in a “Fun &
Fitness” exercise programme, of which an element was
to have their height and weight measurements
recorded, to determine the risk of being overweight
and obese.
Parents then took part
in 12 weekly sessions learning about healthy eating,
while at the same time their children were engaged
in various sporting activities. Dr Paul
Harris, senior partner at Patford House Surgery
said, ”By working with Year 4 children we can get in
early and make a difference”

Local I.T. company picks up new award
Calne-based RASCOM I.T. LIMITED have been
awarded Silver Reseller status by the Internet
Security software company, AVG Technologies as a
result of achieving a high level of sales within
their Reseller Merit Program confirming their
commitment to the brand and continuing recognition
in the fight against viruses and spyware on the
Internet.
“We
truly appreciate your extremely good sales results
and we look forward to a continuous mutually
beneficial relationship with you” said AVG
Technologies.
Robert Stokes of RASCOM I.T. said, “Our customers
have been extremely satisfied with the AVG range of
Internet Security products spanning our relationship
with AVG which goes back over four years. The
relationship with the software manufacturer is one
of the best we’ve encountered, we have good
commercial conditions and excellent technical
support – though we have had little need to contact
them as the products have been so reliable and
simple to use compared against some of the other
Internet Security products available on the market
for both home and business users.
With
more and more people using Internet-based products
on a regular basis, it is more important than ever
that computer users have some form of protection
against attacks on their systems and their personal
information and AVG has consistently proved itself
both to ourselves and our customers by stopping
viruses in their tracks.”
