Business
referral scheme brings in almost £30k of business in
1st month!
Building on the success of the
THINK CALNE
initiative, Chamber members have picked up in the
region of £30,000 worth of business from new
customers in it's first month alone as a result of
other Chamber members asking us to provide them with
details of companies in our area who can offer them
the products and services they require.
Though they were under no obligation to go with
these new companies against their existing ones,
they found that the quality and service of the
products supplied were at least as good as they have
been receiving from other suppliers previously and
preferred to give the work to local businesses and
help the local economy.
This
is just one example of how Calne Chamber works for
its members and how member to member trading can
grow and develop.

Woolworths
administration raises questions for new Calne store
Construction
work to create the new Heart of Calne at Phelps Parade
continues and is unaffected by the closure of
the proposed Woolworth store that was due to be
built on the site.
With Woolworths closing down, the Leader of North Wiltshire
District Council has confirmed that an alternative retailer
would be sought for the Phelps Parade site. Cllr
Dick Tonge, says, "The turmoil surrounding one of the
high street's best known retailers is a reflection of
the recession and the affect on the High Street.
This in no way changes our commitment to continue with
the refurbishment of Phelps Parade and improve retail
opportunities for local shoppers. This development will
prove a high quality retailing area, and we will be
working to ensure that we attract another retailer into
the development."
Work began in May 2009 on making other
improvements to Phelps Parade which will include
new paving, landscaping and the replacement of shop
canopies.
